What's it all about?

World Autism Acceptance Week is a week when we spread awareness of the acceptance we have that people with neurodiversity can present in a range of different ways just like those that are neurotypical. Read more about this week by clicking the image above.

It is important to hear from young people about what it is like to be autistic, and become more aware of how you can support autistic people!

In studies of cisgender people, autism is 4 x more prevalent in boys than girls. It has been suggested that this could be due to autism presenting differently in girls and not being recognised by the diagnostic criteria.

Social media can often make it easy to self-diagnose, and many traits of autism can be seen as relatable. if you feel you may be autistic, we recommend that you speak to a trusted adult.

Autism affects the way a person communicates and how they experience the world around them. It is considered a spectrum condition.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg is autistic.

Greta has spoken about her diagnosis saying it makes her “different” but that she considers it a “superpower”.

Autism is often described using information about deficits and experienced difficulties.

It is important that we also look at all the things that autistic people CAN do and ensure there is a focus on the many strengths!

Autism Spectrum Gaming was created by a group of autistic advocates who wanted to make a friendly and accepting community for autistic people (aged 13 and above) who share the passion for gaming. Their main focus is for gamers with autism to have some fun, make some friends and show off what they can do!
