When changes are happening we can often create more anxiety for ourselves by picturing bad things happening. These thoughts and images in your head are not facts! Think instead about all the good things that could happen and get excited!

Being aware of how we are feeling about upcoming changes can help us to know what to do to feel better! Make a list of any thoughts you have about all the changes taking place. Split them into worries and the things you are excited about. This list will help remind you that big changes that can scare us can bring about positive things too!

Self-care is the small things we do to look after our mental health. Remember with self-care what works for your best mates may be completely different for what works for you. What matters is listening to yourself and trying to give your mind what it needs. Youngminds asked these young people what self-care means to them.

Are you panicking about exam results or feeling anxious about a big change coming up in your life? Try chilling out! Literally! You might have seen ice cube hacks on TikTok. For a short while hold ice in your hands, move it along your arms and face, hold it in your mouth and even try dunking your face in cold water. These are all grounding techniques used to distract yourself from anxious thoughts and refocus on the present.

Using these ice hacks can disrupt the fight, flight and freeze response we all enter when we are anxious. The ice can reduce the temperature of your skin and lower your heart rate. It also can trigger a pain-like response forcing the neurotrasmitters in your brain to refocus.
